#MahmoudKhalil || I want to speak about this, but haven't done so before about #Isreal and #Palestine / #Gaza. So a preamble is required:
Preamble:
- I condemn #terrorism and the attack by #Hamas and others on Oct 7, 2023.
- I condemn #genocide and what #Netanyahu's response has escalated into since.
- I wish the #US under #Biden had found a better way to aid the security of BOTH the Israeli and the Palestinian people.
- I wish #KamalaHarris, whom I canvassed for, acknowledged the need to revisit our mix of aid to both sides.
- After decades of conflict, it seems like #Palestinian security requires #Israeli security and vice versa.
- But I'm just a dude on the internet, so what do I know?
Now, #preamble aside, on the arrest of #MahmoudKhalil, it seems:
- He is an effective leader who spoke up for peace for both sides.
- His arrest was without merit, due process, or a warrant.
- #ColumbiaUniversity is complicit in violating the #civilrights of one of its own students.
With #MahmoudKhalil in jail: No one is safer now. We are in fact all in more danger. Your safety, my security, our democracy, hangs on the courage of whomever is willing to hold the door closed when some amped up rando "just following orders" comes knocking.
