• New Guinness World Record Set for Longest Freestyle Rap [VIDEO]

  During Thursday night’s first-ever MTV O Music Awards, Chidera “Chiddy” Anamege of Chiddy Bang broke the Guinness World Record for Longest Freestyle Rap, as well as the Longest Marathon Rapping Record.

  Chiddy stole the throne from M-Eighty — who broke the record in 2009 by rapping for nine hours, 15 minutes and 15 seconds — by freestyling for nine hours and 18 minutes. He also beat out D.O. (aka Duane Gibson, Canada) for Longest Marathon Rapping session — D.O. rapped for eight hours and 45 minutes.

  Check out the video above, which shows the final countdown. He gets a little random toward the end, but rallies for a big finish.

• SpaceX video depicts crewed Dragon spacecraft landing on Mars

  This SpaceX video unveiled today at a NASA press conference shows how commercial flight crew will take off, travel, and land in the company's Dragon spacecraft.... on a mission to Mars. Notable for details like, "escape engines for on-target propulsive landing will enable landing on any solid surface in the solar system," followed by a CGI dude high-fiving another CGI dude.

• Time-lapse macro video: ferrous particles in liquid suspension, drawn to magnet

  Ferrous printer toner particles floating on the surface of water are attracted by a magnet and align to the invisible magnetic field around them. The patterns and motions that result are strangely ordered and organized. • Innovation and the unexpected: an impassioned rant

  Tim Hurson's TEDxMaastricht talk "The shock of the possible" is a great, impassioned rant about the power of the unexpected in innovation, making connections between many of the turning points in human history. It reminded me of the stellar discussion of the history of randomness and information theory in Gleick's The Information -- a reminder that the unexpected is the source of everything that delights and uplifts.

  Here is a human resources complaint sent by a co-worker of David Thorne—one of the greatest troll artists working today—after David photoshopped Justin Bieber's face all over the co-workers personal photos.
